Tom Thumb Supermarket is set to open at the corner of Interstate 35 and Chapman Road in the Sanger Crossing retail development in December 2025, nearly a year earlier than initially anticipated. This new store will feature a spacious 50,000-square-foot layout, complete with a pharmacy, a drive-thru service window, and dedicated departments for fresh produce, deli items, bakery goods, meat, seafood, floral arrangements, and much more.

The City of Sanger has committed to supporting this development with a one-time construction completion grant of $750,000, contingent upon Tom Thumb securing a certificate of occupancy by December 31, 2026. Additionally, the city will provide incentives of up to $56,250 per full month for early occupancy and operation, allowing for a maximum total incentive package of up to $450,000 if early completion is realized within eight months prior to the December 2026 deadline.

Beyond the grocery store, the Sanger Crossing development plans to include over 600 apartment units and more than 300 single-family residential units, alongside several commercial, retail, and restaurant lots situated along the I-35 service road and FM 455.

Although the Sanger News reached out to the developer this week, they understandably refrained from announcing any of the Letter of Intent (LOI) names that are exploring potential tenancy in Sanger. Since many deals are still in the preliminary stages and non-binding, the developer has opted to wait for major announcements closer to Tom Thumb's opening in December.

The City of Sanger Economic Development are working closely with the developers, but have  non-disclosures and can’t make any announcements currently. They are excited to let the Sanger residents know what is coming to Sanger, in the future. They are an integral  part of bringing these national brands to Sanger.

With Tom Thumb as the anchor tenant of this development, several nationally recognized restaurants have expressed interest in the area. Among them are Whataburger, Panda Express, Waffle House, and Freddy’s Steakburgers.

Notably, Panda Express is expected to begin construction on its new 2,697-square-foot stand-alone restaurant at the Sanger Interstate 35 interchange in early 2026, with completion anticipated by mid-year. A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation confirms the timeline and location for this much-anticipated addition. With its strategic location right off the interstate, the new restaurant is poised to attract both highway travelers and local customers when it opens in 2026.

Moreover, Club Car Wash has also issued bids for the construction of its facility at Sanger Crossing, further enhancing the area's development.
