Murder suspect identified in police chase near Sanger

Plano police have identified the victim and suspect involved in Sunday night’s homicide on Lakestream Drive. Police say officers were called at 10:15 p.m. Sunday to the 1100 block of Lakestream Drive in reference to a shooting incident.
When officers made it to the scene, they found 32-year-old Tashley Gateley, who had multiple gunshot wounds. Plano Fire-Rescue on scene declared Gateley dead at the scene.
On Monday, police say while following up on an investigative lead, officers were able to find and began watching a grey Dodge Charger belonging to the suspect, 31-year-old William Ralph Grundy, in another city. Grundy was reportedly Tashely’s ex-boyfriend.
Police kept watching Grundy until an arrest warrant was issued that day.
At about 9:50 a.m. Monday, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers assisted the Plano Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service to conduct a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger driven by Grundy, the department said in a press release.
Troopers initiated a traffic stop in the northbound lanes of I-35 near Sanger, but Grundy refused to stop and led troopers in a pursuit.
Officials say during the chase, Grundy fired shots toward officers.
The chase eventually ended near the Cooke-Denton County line when Grundy’s car crashed into the center median and caught fire.
The Sanger Fire Department responded to the scene to put out the fire. Grundy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
According to Valley View Police, they were called at about 10 a.m. to assist in a chase in Denton County headed northbound on Interstate 35 toward Cooke County. They said they were told the chase involved a suspect wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Plano, and that a Texas State Trooper tried to stop the driver, but the driver fired at the trooper and tried to escape.
Plano Police told NBC 5 the driver crashed along I-35 between View and Chisam roads in northern Denton County, north of Sanger and south of Valley View.
Valley View Police said that after the driver crashed, officers quickly surrounded the vehicle and that there was a standoff. Valley View Police said "during the incident, the suspect vehicle caught fire" and that "the suspect was later confirmed deceased at the scene."
Valley View Police did not say how the car caught fire or speculate about how the person died.
The car was destroyed by fire and scorched grass in the median.
The crash was reported just before 11 a.m. between exits 481 and 482 and had backed up northbound traffic about five miles to exit 477.
