The former Sanger Lumber Yard/Hardware Store building was demolished last week, just east of the downtown square off of Bolivar Street. The land is owned by the City of Sanger. Future plans are to make a new park, but it's years away and will be phased in stages.
The City of Sanger has a master plan for a new downtown park. The full site build out would include a central stage and focal lawn space, terraced seating, extensive tree planting, native plantings, a flexible open air “Sanger Depot” for any type of event, an intimate patio space, playground, shaded seating, central plaza, and community pavilion. Plans are to convert the large warehouse, which is owned by the city, as well, to the renderings pictured to the right:
Sanger’s new downtown park will serve as a catalyst for future development, and will integrate seamlessly with the existing downtown. The unique character of the Sanger community takes center stage with this project, creating a space that can be used by all ages for years to come.
UPDATE TO THIS STORY: The new park is still in the early stages of planning. In the meantime, the Sanger Senior Center, which has been housed at First Baptist Church for the last year will move to this land in a temporary building. This was the best solution, while the City of Sanger finds the Senior Center a permanent home. See full story about Sanger Senior Center moving in next weeks Sanger News....

The old lumber yard is completely cleared this week.
