On Monday, February 2nd, the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the governing body for public high school sports and activities in Texas, released its updated district realignments for the next two school years: 2026-2027 and 2027-2028.
Sanger High School will compete in District 6 (Class 4A D2) for football over the next two seasons. Their district opponents will include Gainesville, Krum, Lake Worth, Ponder, and Van Alstyne. “We are excited about the district and the opportunity to play against many good teams,” said SHS head football coach Chad Rodgers.
Dropping out of Sanger’s football district are Bonham, Caddo Mills, and Farmersville. Joining the district for the next two seasons are Ponder and Lake Worth. Due to the changes, Coach Rodgers needed to arrange an additional non-district game, which is why there will be a neutral site contest against Canyon in Week 5.
For basketball and volleyball, SHS will participate in District 9 (Class 4A) under the new alignment. District 9 includes Aubrey, Gainesville, Krum, Lake Dallas, Ponder, Sanger, and Van Alstyne. The teams that have been eliminated from the previous alignment are Celina, Frisco Panther Creek, and Prosper Richland, while Krum and Ponder will be new additions to the district for the next two years.
The UIL is expected to announce district alignments for spring sports in the near future.
