Local Perennial Farm spreads its roots

Kathi Efflandt and husband Randy started an adventure almost 7 years ago when they purchased 2 acres in Sanger. “I have always wanted to have a perennial farm and be able to share my love for gardening, which started when I was a child gardening with my great-aunt Grace and grandmother Effie - now my dream has become a reality and I think they would be proud of this garden,” she said.
As a small, local, family-owned business they have been working hard on getting Native Roots Perennial Farm and Garden ready. They have had several plant sales in addition to learning opportunities at the farm. They have been a part of the Sanger Farmers Market since they started last March and enjoy meeting others in the community. “We look forward to growing our nursery in the community, hosting group classes, events and sharing my love for gardening, propagation and native and adaptive plants with you.”
Since 2010, Kathi has been an involved member of several plant organizations and is very passionate about plant propagation. Plant propagation is a great skill to have because you can take one plant and make lots of new plants for your garden. Not only will have you have more plants for your garden, you can also pass along to your friends and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you played a part in creating those plants each time you see them in your garden.
Plants and gardens play an important role in creating a food supply for our birds, butterflies and pollinators. In your garden, they help create an ecosystem that is sustainable and creates a place for you to enjoy natures’ activity in your garden. Here at Native Roots Perennial Farm and Garden we have two certifications that support our native wildlife. We are a Monarch Waystation, which provides nectar sources and shelter that is needed to sustain monarch butterflies as they migrate through North America, in addition to be a certified wildlife habitat through the National Wildlife Federation. Native Roots Perennial Farm and Garden is a Native Improve & Conserve Environments (N.I.C.E) Native Plant Partner through the Native Plant Society of Texas and our nursery strives to offer you Native plant options that can use less water, improve your soil, reduce maintenance, withstand our crazy weather patterns and feed and protect native pollinators and wildlife.
