The popular football magazine is high on the 2025 Sanger Indians varsity football team.  They have them picked to win the district championship in 5-4A Division II.  “I think it’s great and goes to show you we are picking up traction and shows the amount of kids and talent coming back,” said head coach Chad Rogers, about being the favorite in district.  “We have had an outstanding off-season and summer workouts and we are a lot bigger and stronger.   The kids are hungry and want to get the bad taste out of their mouth from last year.” Sanger lost three district games by a combined four points to narrowly miss the playoffs in 2024. “2025 is going to be an exciting year,” Rogers added.  Sanger’s is fast as well, as by the 40 times highlighted in this article.

Here is what the magazine reads.

Coach: Chad Rogers. Lettermen Returning/Lost: 35/8. Starters returning Offensive/Defensive: 10/6. 2024 record 4-6/3-3 district.

Players to watch: OL Alex Zuniga (6-1, 280), RB Reggie Jones (5-11, 165, 4.5), ATH Austin Martin (5-9, 145, 4.5), LB Max Taylor (6-0, 185, 4.7), DB Luke Hendricks (6-0, 165, 4.6), WR Joel Rodriguez (6-1, 160, 4.6). Top juniors: WR Wyatt Pennington (6-4, 175, 4.8), RB/DB Bota Ogunwuyl (6-2, 180, 4.5). Top sophomore: RB/DB Chris Ramirez (5-8, 160, 4.8).  All of Sanger’s starting offensive line returns and three of them are three-year starters: Cam Tuberville, Zane Garcia and Zuniga.

Other prospects: QB Reed Sebastian, DB Jaise Jackson, DL JJ Mikas, TE/LB Creedon Boerner, WR Levi Hendricks, LB Arie Watson, OL Jayson Lemayan, OL Johnny Valdez. JJ Mikas is a three-year starter at DE.

2025 notes: Sanger has a case for being the tough luck team of 2024.  The Indians missed the playoffs with three districts losses by a combined four points.  RB Jones (1,483 yards, 15 TDs rushing) and ATH Martin (450 yards, 8 TDs rushing; 17-113, 2 TDs receiving) are big time playmakers, while OL Zuniga is one of the area’s most underrated linemen. Junior LB Taylor (88 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 INTs) was the district newcomer of the year in 2024. He is the preseason defensive MVP by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.

Van Alstyne returns R/L: 22/16, Starters returning O/D: 4/3; Farmersville  returns R/L: 19/19, Starters returning O/D: 5/7;  Krum returns R/L: 24/15, Starters returning O/D: 5/7;  Caddo Mills returns R/L: 31/23, Starters returning O/D: 5/4; Gainesville returns R/L: 23/21, Starters returning O/D: 4/6; and Bonham returns R/L: 24/13, Starters returning O/D: 7/6.
