This photo was taken on June 30, 1987, marking the creation of Lake Ray Roberts. Spanning 29,350 acres, this reservoir is located just east of Sanger. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed the lake in 1987, and it began filling rapidly. Following the dam’s completion in June of that year, water started flowing into the lake, with deliberate impoundment officially commencing on June 30, as reported by the Texas Water Development Board. The construction of the dam began on May 31, 1982. Lake Ray Roberts was developed for multiple purposes, including flood control, water supply, hydropower generation, fish and wildlife, and recreation.
