On March 20, 2023, The City of Sanger announced the new Assistant Fire Chief is Casey Welborn.

After an extensive recruitment process, Assistant Chief Welborn was selected as a finalist and interviewed by a panel that included an area Battalion Chief, Fire Chief, the City of Sanger’s HR Department, and other City Staff.

Welborn has been with the Sanger Fire Department since 1998. During his tenure with the City, he has served as a Firefighter/Paramedic Lieutenant and, most recently, the City’s Fire Marshall.

Assistant Chief Welborn holds multiple certifications: Officer 1 & 2, Instructor 1 & 2, Inspector 1 &2, plans review, and he is an advanced firefighter. Additionally, Welborn’s expertise includes but is not limited to fire suppression, emergency disaster planning, fire behavior, and combustion.

Sanger’s Mayor, Thomas Muir, noted, “The City is confident about promoting Casey Welborn. We believe he is an exceptional fit for our community with his knowledge of Sanger, qualifications, and expertise.”

“I am excited and honored to be given the opportunity to serve as Sanger’s Assistant Fire Chief,” Welborn said in the press release. “I take great pride in this City. I look forward to the extreme growth coming to Sanger and hope to help our department grow with the same goals and integrity we have always had.”
