Chevron/Horizon goes out of business
Arish Khan’s Chevron/Horizon gas station and convenient store closed two weeks ago on the corner of I-35 and west Chapman Drive. He said the road construction is the main reason. His store was the last of the “original four” on the corners of FM 455 and I-35. Super Save, Shell and Snap Shop were demolished at the start of the TxDOT expansion construction. Quick Trip built where Super Save was. A Scooter’s coffee shop is planned for the Snap Shop location across the highway.
Khan adapted after he lost his fuel pumps to the Right Of Way of his property purchased by the state. He adapted and kept the convenience store and authentic mexican food restaurant open. The restaurant had thrived while the utilities were moved for the expansion, but once construction started this year and barriers were put up, he lost most of the parking, as seen in the photos.
“I hate to leave the place,” Khan said earlier this week. “Sanger has been a good place for me and we had a good run, but it’s over.”
It was a 22 year run for Kahn. He bought the store and property in 2003. He’s in talks with the group that purchased over 200 acres behind him for residential and retail stores. He has 36,000 square feet of property to sell in a prime location. The buyer will tear down the building.
Kahn was usually at his store a few days a week and made a lot of friends with Sangerites. He recently bought the Layalina Mediterranean Restaurant and Lounge in Downtown Denton. It’s located at 222 W. Hickory Drive. Go by and try the food and say hello to Arish.
