Josh Burrus won Place 3 on the Sanger City Council in the May 3rd Election. He had 51% of the vote (158 votes) over incumbent Dennis Dillon (39.02% 119 votes) and Larry Terry received 28 votes.
“I would like to thank everyone for supporting me running for Sanger City Council. I am very excited and look forward to serving this great community,” said Burrus after the election results were totaled.
Dillon said, “I would like to say thanks to the citizens of Sanger for giving me the honor of serving on your City Council the past 6 years. Much has been accomplished over those years. But there is so much more to be done. We all must work hard to maintain the characteristics that make Sanger such a great place to live. A city where people feel safe, enjoy our parks and care about each other. Again, thank you Sanger.”
Burrus decided to run this year for City Council because. “Growing up I watched my Dad Sam Burrus serve on the school board for Sanger ISD for 16 years and my grandfather John Coker serve as the Mayor of Sanger as well as the Justice of the Peace. I feel that it is my time to step up and serve my community to the best of my ability.”
City Council incumbents Marrisa Barrett (Place 1) and Victor Gann (Place 5) were unopposed.
Sanger ISD voters cast ballots for two seats on their school board.
Board Secretary Jesse Hunter ran unopposed and reclaimed his Place 4 seat. Incumbent Lisa Cody (241 votes) narrowly beat challenger Drew Hall (221 votes) to reclaim her Place 5 seat on the school board with 52% of the vote.
“I want to thank everyone for relecting me to the School Board. Your support means so much to me, and I’m excited to continue working together to improve our schools. I’m looking forward to the work aheada and if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at Lisa.cody@lscprecisioninc.com,” Cody said.
Hall released a very classy statement after the results came in. “Congrats to Lisa Lynch Cody on her re-election to the Sanger ISD School Board. I am looking forward to continue to support Sanger ISD, just as I have since I graduated in 2003 and continue to dedicate my time to the Sanger Education Foundation, Inc. serving on the Admin. Board. Members of the community know that when folks serve on these boards, there is zero monetary or personal benefits. It’s strictly giving your time and having a servants heart to better the community we live in. It’s said that we should love our neighbor as thyself. We lose sight of that sometimes. It doesn’t matter if it’s your grandson, niece, neighbor or not. Everyone that is in this town means something. We’ve gotta continue to make it a great day to be a Sanger Indian and member of the community.
“Let’s all get together on May 15th at SHS and honor the 2025 Graduates during the scholarship awards. Since 2004, it’s been my honor to remember my best friend and classmate by presenting the Rowdy Pursur Memorial Scholarship. #drewhallforsisdschoolboard2026.”
