FM 455 WIDENING PROJECT: Car Care Center of Sanger closes

Carroll Trego opened the Car Care Center, an auto repair shop in April of 1996 and he’s been in this industry much longer. He’s been an AMSOIL Dealer since 1977 and in the automotive repair business since 1959. Trego has lived in Sanger since 1974. The building he occupied for the last 22 years is located at 200 W. Chapman Drive at the corner of Second Street, in Sanger. It is one of the many properties that has been purchased by the state for the widening of FM 455, just east of Sanger High School to Bolivar. The project includes the reconstruction and widening of FM 455 from west of FM 2450 to east of Marion Road, a distance of 5.53 miles, in the City of Sanger. Improvements will involve the expansion from a two-lane rural highway to a four-lane urban highway (four through lanes with a center two-way left turn lane [CTWLTL]). Expansion would consist of one 12-foot wide travel lane and one 14-foot wide outside shared‑use lane with 1.5-foot outside curb offsets in each direction with a 17-foot wide CTWLTL.

On Tuesday morning, he was at the building cleaning a mop bucket. “Well, they wanted the building empty and it is now,” he said. He said the business isn’t moving, but closing. Doug Myers, who’s run the repair shop for a while now is now working at Calvert Automotive in Denton. “Trego joked - I can’t even work on my own car now.” Carroll sold all his tools to Myers.

The property and building are owned by Ronnie Beard, of Sanger. Trego said he leased the building from Mr. Beard for all that time and they never had a lease agreement. These two were brought up in a time when a hand shake was as good as any contract agreement.

The right of way from 455 and Second street is just feet away from the building. And when you connect them from both sides, the right of way goes through the corner of the building.

Carroll and his wife Sue, live behind the building and he has a little shop next to his home. Trego will continue to operate his AMSOIL Lubricant business - CTSynthetics.

He is a licensed dealer for AMSOIL and sells Synthetic motor Oil for cars, trucks, motorcycles, industrial and much more. The website is www.ctsynthetics.shopamsoil.com/. “I can generally have the product you need available within 24 hours of when you order it.” His cell number is 940-390-2905.

Five to eight-foot wide sidewalks will be located along the outside of both the eastbound and westbound lanes, the length of the entire 5.3 miles. The sidewalks would meet Americans with Disabilities design criteria. The existing right of way (ROW) width varies from 50 to 170 feet wide with a usual ROW width of 90 feet. The ROW width varies from 104 to 225 feet wide with a usual ROW width of 130 feet. Approximately 38.5 acres of new ROW and 2.1 acres of easements is being acquired.
