The Lady Indians and coach Tracy Sykes are one game away from advancing to the Region II Class 4A Basketball Tournament at Texas A&M Commerce. And three wins from the state tournament. But it won’t be easy, Sanger (29-7) faces Melissa (32-3) on Tuesday, February 20 at Frisco Wakeland High School (10700 Legacy Drive, Frisco, TX) at 7:00 p.m. Sanger is coming off an easy win over Quinlan Ford and Melissa squeezed by Wilmer-Hutchins by one point in overtime. On paper, Melissa appears to have a better offense, averaging 58 points a game, while giving up 42 points a game. Sanger’s defense stands out when you compare both teams. Sanger only allows 37.7 points a game and is scoring an average of 50 points. Melissa was undefeated in their district at 10-0 against Celina, Princeton, Anna and Aubrey. Sanger finished as the runner up and had a 7-3 record in one of the toughest districts in the state with Argyle, Krum, Bridgeport, Decatur and Gainesville.
Sanger and Melissa have played eight common opponents this year. See the comparisons above: The winner of the Melissa (no. 13 in the state) and Sanger (no. 18 in the state) game will play at 6 p.m. at Texas A&M Commerce on Friday against the winner of Tatum vs. Bullard, who play Tuesday, as well. Tatum (28-4) is ranked no. 10 in the state and Bullard (29-8) is ranked no. 23 in the state. Argyle (no. 11) plays Dallas Lincoln (no. 6) on Tuesday at Carrollton Newman Smith at 6:30 p.m. Argyle is 29-7 overall and Lincoln is 32-3. The winner of that game will face the winner of Gilmer (28-6, no. 17 in the state) and Henderson at 8 p.m. on Friday as the other regional semifinal at Texas A&M Commerce.
In 2011, Sanger's Lady Indians lost a narrow game to Lovejoy in the third-round of the playoffs and just missed out on the regional tournament. Sanger was led by Reagan Miller, who went on the play for Liberty University. Hopefully, in 2018, the Sanger fans will be making the trip to Commerce on Friday and Saturday.

AREA PLAYOFF GAME - Sanger forced 22 turnovers from the Quinlan Ford Lady Panthers on Friday in the 57-29 victory in the Area-Round of the Class 4A, Region II Basketball Playoffs at Princeton High School.
Freshman guard Chloe Malone scored 16 points and had several steals to lead the Lady Indians. Sanger scored 18 points off turnovers and she led the way in points off of transition and layups. Sanger separated themselves from the Lady Panthers in the third quarter, when leading scorer Maci Tukoly (17 points) was able to convert three 3-pointers to help her team outscore Ford 19-7.
