Indians basketball wins play-in game, plays Dallas Lincoln in the playoffs

Sanger (18-15) made the playoffs and will face. no. 4 ranked Dallas Lincoln (22-8) on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Lewisville High School.  Lincoln won their district over Dallas Carter (no. 5 in the state), Wilmer-Hutchins (no. 18) and Faith Family Academy, Dallas Pinkston and Dallas Roosevelt. Argyle 26-6 who’s ranked no. 12 in the state and District 9-4A Champion will face Faith Family Academy, who came in fourth place in District 10-4A.  Krum (27-7), the runner-up in 9-4A and ranked no. 18 in the state faces Wilmer-Hutchins, who came in third place in District 10-4A.  Hutchins, could win most districts and barely lost to Dallas Carter and Lincoln in their respective district games.  Decatur came in third place in 9-4A and takes on Carter in the first-round of the playoffs.   Second year head coach Layne Boxell is proud of his team and glad for the seniors. "I'm happy for these seniors. The last time we made the playoffs was when they were freshmen."   In that season, Sanger played AAA Academy, who had three Division I players on their team, including Baylor Bears King McClure.  Sanger lost, but played a respectable game.   REGION II (Note the winners of the two games grouped, play each other in the next round on Friday): Crandall vs. Aubrey (22-10), 7:00 Tuesday at Plano East Krum vs. Wilmer-Hutchins, 7:30 Tuesday at Carrollton R.L. PLAY-IN GAME:  Friday, February 16 Landon Ceballos and CJ Jackson each scored 15 points and Trey Henderson scored 12 as Sanger beat Gainesville on Friday at Aubrey High School 55-53, in the district’s extra play-in game. Jackson led Sanger with 4 assists, 9 rebounds and was 6 for 6 from the free throw line.  CeBallos was 3 for 4 from the free throw line  and had two assists.  He made four, 3-pointers for Sanger.   The Leopards hit 10 treys, half of those coming from freshman guard Colby Brasher. Brasher finished with 17 points and was one of three Leopards to reach double figures. Josh Kemp scored 15 and Tyler Goldsworth added 13.

There were eight lead changes in the fourth quarter, and Gainesville looked like it might hang on when Brasher hit a 3-pointer with 1:31 left to give his team a 53-52 lead. Sanger’s Trey Henderson hit a 10 foot baseline shot from the right side to give the Indians a lead.  And he was 2-for-2 from the free throw line late in the game to put the Indians on top again.   Gainesville jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter, with 12 of those points coming off 3-pointers. Sanger rallied to take a one-point lead to halftime but found itself in a 37-all tie going into the final eight minutes.
